His widow, Elizabeth (Eliza), is buried right next to him. Both gravesites are often decorated with flowers, pebbles, and pennies (a nod to Hamilton’s legacy in finance).

Visiting Hamilton’s Tomb in New York City
Standing at Hamilton’s grave in the shadow of lower Manhattan’s towers, you realize that this city has always been built by people willing to bet everything on it.
Both Trinity Church and Hamilton’s grave are open to the public and free to visit. The churchyard and cemetery are open daily from 8:30am to 4pm, and visitors are welcome to pay their respects. The church interior is also open daily from 9am to 6pm.
Getting there is simple. Several subway lines stop within a block of the church. R & W to Rector Street, J & Z to Broad Street, and 2, 3, 4, and 5 to Wall Street.
Who else is buried at Trinity Church?
Philip Hamilton. The eldest son of Alexander and Eliza is buried in an unmarked grave. It’s believed that because he died in a duel, the church did not want to condone the practice with a headstone. Hamilton, who also died in a duel, was likely too significant a figure to go unrecognized.

Local tip. Alexander Hamilton’s grave at Trinity Church is easy to miss, it’s in the churchyard, not inside the church. Look for the white marble pyramid near the Broadway entrance. The best time to visit is early morning when the cemetery is peaceful.
Trinity Church offered tours in the past, especially following the Hamilton musical’s release, which brought thousands of visitors. However, there are currently no in-person tours. Instead, the church created a helpful online map with markers and illustrations of famous gravesites.
Better still, Trinity Church has an app that allows you to take an augmented reality (AR) tour. Just point your phone at various features around the church to unlock bite-sized historical facts.

The Interior of Trinity Church. Don’t miss the gorgeous stained glass, intricate woodwork, and the historic pipe organ. The ornate marble reredos (donated by the Astor Family) and numerous memorials make this interior worth a visit.
The Peppercorn Plaque. Trinity’s original charter required a symbolic annual rent of one peppercorn to the British monarchy. In 1976, Queen Elizabeth II was given 279 peppercorns to cover back rent since 1697. You’ll find a plaque marking this quirky bit of history.
Soldiers’ Monument. This tall stone obelisk honors the Revolutionary War soldiers buried at Trinity. It’s inscribed with messages commemorating their service and sacrifice.
