New York City Peak Cherry Blossoms Prediction 2023
My predictions for peak cherry blossom bloom for this year are based on conditions from last year. Read on for weekly updates, photos and videos! Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, always happy to help!
You should know there’s two main varieties of cherry blossom trees in New York City: Yoshino & Kwanzan and they bloom at separate times. This is actually a big perk because you can catch fantastic spring blooms during a month-long span.
But the goal is to catch NYC’s cherry blossoms at peak bloom, which is a hard to pin down because it varies from year to year. Peak bloom is typically a short-lived window (3-4 days) when the majority of the blossoms have bloomed and the tree is adorned in vibrant spring colors.
My best advice for those visiting New York City for cherry blossoms is to plan for the first week of April or the first week of May. The two types of cherry blossoms trees in NYC tend to peak during those respective weeks.
Peak Bloom Prediction 2023: April 7th for Kwanzan & April 30th for Yoshino

March 18th NYC Cherry Blossom Tracker Update: All of the cherry blossom trees are showing buds but few are actually blooming. There are a couple of cherry blossom trees on the west side of the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir that bloomed prematurely this year and will hit their peak blossom within a few days.
The rest of the city including the Brooklyn Botanical Garden cherry blossoms are still weeks out.
March 19th NYC Cherry Blossom Tracker Update: Little change to New York City’s cherry blossoms from yesterday. Mix of rain and sunshine predicted this week should help them along.
March 24th NYC Cherry Blossom Tracker Update: Some trees are starting to bloom around the city but very few cherry blossoms are blooming as of yet. Central Park has some nice callery pear trees blooming and the spring magnolias are getting ready to begin blooming within the next week or so.
March 27th NYC Cherry Blossom Tracker Update: New York City cherry blossoms still making steady progress. Sunny weather is coaxing them out a bit more now.
Standing by my aforementioned peak bloom predictions. Inspected Cherry Hill in Central Park today and saw buds that are getting fuller. Should start blooming late this week or early next week.
March 28th NYC Cherry Blossom Tracker Update: More sunshine with rain seems to be speeding our cherry blossom blooms along. Popped into the Shakespeare Garden in Central Park to see how those blooms are coming along as well.

April 1 NYC Cherry Blossom Tracker Update: The cherry blossoms are blooming! New York City is currently alive with cherry blossoms. The Kwanzan are still on track for an April 7th peak. Central Park is especially beautiful with lots of things in bloom currently.
The coming days of sunshine should really help them to come out more.
April 2 NYC Cherry Blossom Tracker Update: Today’s sunshine has the cherry blossom trees really starting to open up more. Still expecting April 7th to be peak for the Kwanzans. Should not start seeing petals drop until next week.

We are planning our first trip to NYC as a couple April 12-16 and I am wondering what Central Park will look like that week? Will we miss the blooms?

How exciting! Central Park will be looking really nice that week. The Yoshino cherries should be near peak bloom at that time along with lots of the spring blooming magnolias. On top of that, the tulips should be popping up throughout the city. I highly recommend visiting the Shakespeare Garden & Conservatory Gardens if you’re looking for some beautiful spring blooms. Hi Kevin, the cherry blossoms seem to be blooming earlier in 2024! I’d predict the first week of April for Kwanzan and the last week for Yoshino.
