Oriental Garden.

Worth it, says Antonina. The seafood here is noticeably fresher than most dim sum spots.

It's on 1 of my list. Each entry below is what I wrote about it there, with my verdict on that list, the fullest first.

Best dim sum in New York

No. 3 on that list
Worth it
  • Cost$25-35 per person
  • Address14 Elizabeth Street
  • From my guide, updated June 2026.

Oriental Garden at 14 Elizabeth Street is where Chinatown locals go for Cantonese seafood dim sum. It doesn’t have the Instagram fame of Nom Wah or the spectacle of Golden Unicorn, and that’s exactly why I love it.

The seafood here is noticeably fresher than most dim sum spots. The shrimp in the har gow actually tastes like shrimp, not like a vaguely seafood-flavored paste. The steamed fish dumplings are outstanding. And their congee is the kind of thing that makes you question why you ever eat oatmeal for breakfast.

It’s also slightly less hectic than the big banquet halls, which means you can actually hear yourself think. Plates $4-7, budget $25-35 per person.

Worth it, says Antonina. Been? Say if you agree.
