Stamatis over on 29-09 23rd Avenue is the least trendy spot on this list, and that is the entire point. It is a plain, welcoming dining room that has been feeding the neighborhood forever, and it cooks like your Greek grandmother would if she had strong opinions and a grill. Red snapper, whole and simple. Grilled octopus, obviously. A big outdoor deck where live music plays on weekends, weather permitting.
Nobody is going to post a moody photo of Stamatis. The plating is not the point. The point is the fish is fresh, the portions are generous, and the bill will not make you flinch. When I want Greek food with zero pretense, this is the address.
