Frankel’s Delicatessen is an endearing Greenpoint haunt dishing up some of the best bagel sandwiches in New York City. Offering all the standard fixings of a traditional Jewish deli, you’ll find breakfast sandwiches, smoked fish, bagels, hot pastrami and other delicacies.

But between you and me, it’s the velvety lox that sets Frankel’s apart from the competition. Sure, you can grab a standard bagel with schmear and find yourself perfectly content, but that misses the point. The restaurant’s pièce de résistance is the sandwich menu.

There’s seven “specialty sandwiches” on the menu, but a personal favorite is the Frankel’s #1 Bagel. Made with pastrami lox, scallion cream cheese and cucumber salad, I’d gladly commute an hour to get my hands on this bad boy (and do!).

Frankel’s is a modern Jewish deli that does everything well, and their bagels are no exception. The bagels are sourced from a great bakery and they’re always fresh. But what puts Frankel’s on this list is the whole experience. The smoked fish is excellent, the egg sandwiches are perfect, and the vibe is exactly what you want from a Brooklyn morning. It’s bright, casual, and unpretentious.

I order the bagel with smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers, and red onion. Classic. Never gets old. The fact that it’s in Greenpoint means it’s usually less crowded than the Manhattan heavy hitters, which is a real bonus on weekend mornings.

What can I say about Frankel’s Deli that hasn’t been said before? Locals have been singing their praises for years and I’m not about to stray. While they offer all the classic staples of a traditional Jewish deli, it’s their bagels & lox that truly shine.

But don’t overlook their hotdogs, they’re definitely worth a try. For just $5, you can enjoy one of the best hotdogs in NYC, complete with an all-beef frank, generous mustard, and delicious sauerkraut. And if you’re feeling especially hungry, opt for the “Recession Special,” which includes two of their famous hotdogs and a drink for $10.99.

I don’t gate-keep good food. When it comes to sharing great finds, I’m the first to chime in. Offering all the standard fixings of a typical Jewish deli, Frankel’s velvety lox sets them apart from the competition. My favorite item on the menu is the signature lox sandwich. Frankel #1 (pastrami salmon, scallion cream cheese & dill cucumber salad). The dill cucumber salad kicks this classic up a notch, it’s delicious.
