Greg Boehm founded Miracle when he opted to postpone construction his cocktail bar Mace in order to create a holiday-themed pop-up. He used the unfinished space, decked it out with Christmas decorations, and masterfully built a temporary holiday-inspired menu of craft cocktails.
It quickly became one of the best bars in New York City open on Christmas Eve and day. To no one’s surprise the word got out and locals started coming en masse. The next year they expanded the pop-up by partnering with more bars around the city and now Miracle is a worldwide company.
Today, New York City is home to Miracle on 9th in the East Village and Miracle on Union in Williamsburg, each worthy of being among the best bars open on Christmas Eve and day in NYC.
Miracle on 9th Street is a popular holiday-themed cocktail pop-up bar that makes an appearance every year. Decked to the nines, the bar oozes an endearing holiday spirit few can resist. In terms of decor, you’ll find the usual suspects, large ribbons, holiday trinkets, bright green garlands, twinkling lights and classic Christmas music playing on a loop.
As for drinks, that’s where things get interesting. The pop up takes great pride in keeping everybody on their toes with creative libations centered around classic holiday memories. If you see the Jingle Balls Nog (cognac, cream sherry, almond milk, cream, egg, vanilla and nutmeg) on the menu, don’t skip a beat, it’s one of the best holiday cocktails in the city.
I’ve been here in every season. My favorite? Fall, when the light hits just right.
