Red Hook, Brooklyn feels like a different city. No subway access (the nearest station is a 20-minute walk or a bus ride), which means it’s stayed remarkably untouched by the usual Brooklyn gentrification playbook. The waterfront views of the Statue of Liberty and New York Harbor are extraordinary, and on a quiet afternoon, you’ll have them mostly to yourself.

While you’re there, get a key lime pie from Steve’s Authentic Key Lime Pies ($7/slice) and eat it on the pier. That’s the whole plan. That’s enough.
