Dishing out classic American fare, Walter’s claim to fame is a toss-up between the chicken and waffles and great customer service. This no-frills restaurant is the ideal setting for a Sunday morning rendezvous with a mandatory round of Bloody Marys.
My go-to ordering tip, ask the staff what’s popular that day.
They do takeout and delivery, but I’d really recommend eating in at least once. The experience is part of what makes it special.
Rolling in with a group, or with kids, or with people who cannot agree on anything? Walter’s at 166 DeKalb faces Fort Greene Park and does an American menu with a solid burger and a good brunch if it is a weekend afternoon game. And if it is warm out, Habana Outpost at 757 Fulton is a seasonal Cuban courtyard spot with picnic tables, frozen margaritas, and elotes worth the mess. It is order-at-the-window casual, which makes it a fast, low-drama pre-game feed. I will admit half the reason I go is the corn. Just know it runs seasonally, roughly spring through fall, so a January game is out of luck there.
