When I first moved to New York, I was broke enough that free museum days weren’t a nice-to-have, they were the only option. That’s how I accidentally discovered that some of the most fascinating collections in this city don’t charge admission at all. I’ve been keeping a running list of free museums in New York City ever since, and these ten are the ones I genuinely enjoy going back to.

  3. National Museum of the American IndianMuseum · Financial DistrictI always recommend this one to visitors who want something meaningful beyond the typical tourist circuit.

  9. The New York Public Library's Special ExhibitMuseum · MidtownWhile thisn't a free New York City museum in the traditional sense, there's no denying that the collection rivals those in more notable museums.
