Some folks don’t realize that Manhattan is home to the largest Chinatown in the country. Home to more than 150,000 Chinese-Americans, celebrating the Lunar New Year in Chinatown is not something you’ll quickly forget!
Dragon dancing, colorful outfits, martial art performers and impressive dancers take to the street for live music and firecrackers.
Featuring stunning visuals and delicious treats, there’s two important dates to know. The main parade takes place February 16, 2025 and the Firecracker Ceremony and Cultural Festival take place January 29, 2025 at Sara D. Roosevelt Park.
Bar Pisellino
Arguably the most authentic espresso bar you’ll find this side of the Atlantic, Bar Pisellino is a must-visit for those in search of cozy activities in New York City in Febraury. A personal favorite, my husband and I are frequent fliers at this cozy joint, we love their hot toddies and hot chocolate (think thick European sipping chocolate).

Riding bumper cars in Bryant Park is one of the most nostalgic activities while visiting New York City in February. The park’s beloved ice rink transforms into a thrilling bumper car track, giving you a chance to crash into friends and strangers alike.
This is a lighthearted and quirky addition to any New York City February itinerary! Everyone in the group is bound to have a great time (children must be 7 and older to ride).

Winter Jam
The lovely folks at the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation host an annual event called Winter Jam. The highlight of the event is the mini mountain of snow at Rumsey Playfield (near the Bandshell), giving kids a chance to enjoy a winter wonderland in the heart of Manhattan.
Complete with a snowfield for snowshoeing and sledding, this event is one of the best free things to do in New York City in February. Live music, food vendors, and various winter-themed entertainment, it’s the perfect way to enjoy the outdoors while visiting NYC in winter!
My advice Anybody visiting New York City in February with kids shouldn’t miss this event. Just be sure to show up early, events are hosted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Amateur Night at the Apollo is best billed as a glorious talent show where musicians, comedians and dancers attempt to earn the applause of the notoriously tough crowd (booing is par for the course). You could witness the budding career of a talented artist, or join the crowd in booing. Tickets are required and available via Ticketmaster.
New York Rangers Game
If you’re visiting New York City in February you should make an effort to attend a New York Rangers game. One of the original six teams in the National Hockey League, the Rangers have a loyal and passionate fan base. Hell, sometimes the fans are more entertaining than the games.
Governors Island

All 172 glorious acres of Governors Island are open to dogs (and people) every Saturday and Sunday in February. To get the the island, you’ll need to take a public ferry. During weekends in February, dogs will be allowed to ride the ferry to Governors Island (using the outdoor areas) until 3pm. After 3pm, dogs won’t be allowed to board the inbound ferry to Governors Island.
However, if you find yourself on the island past 3pm, fret not. Dogs are allowed on the outbound ferry until the last ferry leaves the island. The best part? The island and ferry offer stunning views of New York City!
