What I go for

The High Line is one of my favorite ways to see the city from a different perspective. This distinctive park was built on a former train track, and now it winds through the west side of Manhattan with flowers, art, and skyline views the whole way.

Midday on a weekend, roughly 11am to 4pm on a Saturday or Sunday, is the version of the High Line that people complain about.

When to go

Before 9am, especially on a weekday, the High Line is a completely different park. The light is low and gold, the plantings are still holding dew, the runners and the dog walkers have it mostly to themselves, and you can actually hear the birds over the traffic below.
