A parent’s guide to visiting New York with kids

Walking the Brooklyn Bridge is a rite of passage for visitors of any age. The scenic, 1-mile walk offers views of the Statue of Liberty, Manhattan’s skyline, and the East River.

Located on Fifth Avenue, this two-story LEGO wonderland is a must for any budding builder. It’s filled with jaw-dropping LEGO sculptures, interactive stations, and a “Minifigure Factory” where kids can design their own characters.

It’s also conveniently located near Rockefeller Center and St. Patrick’s Cathedral—both worth a quick look while you’re in the area.

She’s been in more movies than any A-list celebrity, and your kids will probably recognize her before you even dock. A trip to Liberty Island is a bucket-list NYC experience—and while it requires a bit of planning, it’s totally worth it. For a quicker (free) option: take the Staten Island Ferry instead. It’s free and still gets you pretty close to Lady Liberty.

What used to be an elevated freight train line is now a lush, art-filled park stretching from Hudson Yards to the Meatpacking District. The High Line is a great place to let kids wander a bit (with you nearby, of course), while spotting murals, sculptures, and city views around every corner.

In warmer months, street performers and food vendors pop up along the path. You might even catch a balloon artist or impromptu jazz band.

Even if you’ve never read a word of the books, you’ll still find the Harry Potter Store absolutely enchanting. The space is immersive and beautifully designed, with magical photo ops and a Butterbeer bar. There’s also a wand shop, house robes for sale, and plenty of exclusive merch. It’s one of the most whimsical experiences for kids in NYC—not to mention a great rainy day activity.

Yes, Broadway tickets can be pricey. But seeing a live performance—especially a musical based on a favorite movie—is one of the most unforgettable things to do in New York City with kids.
