You’ve probably heard about the most famous cookies in NYC, but did you know that Levain’s original location is on the Upper West Side? The softball-sized chocolate chip walnut cookies have amassed a cult-like following that only sounds surprising until you try it for yourself.
While the cookies are the draw, the bakery does serve a handful of other baked goods as well, like the delicious sour cream coffee cake and cinnamon brioche. There’s two Levain bakeries on the Upper West Side. The original location 74th Street and the larger store on Amsterdam between 76th and 77th streets.

The bewitching aroma of Levain Bakery is irresistible. Originally started in the Upper West Side, the bakery spread like wildfire throughout NYC because of its famous chocolate chip walnut cookie.
Rarely, in a city offering so many options, does a place stand so far above the rest, and yet, I can confidently tell you that Levain makes some of the the best cookies in NYC. So swing by the original location West 74th street (and Amsterdam) if you get a hankering for something sweet.

Rarely, in a city offering SO many food options, does a place stand so far above the rest but Levain Bakery is an exception. These incredible treats will reappear in dreams. The menu is fairly small (five cookies and a few baked goods) which makes ordering a breeze. The line well out the door most hours of the day and can take 30+ minutes during weekends.

Arguably the most famous cookie in New York City, Levain Bakery has once again made a list of must-try winter treats in New York City. During the month of December, peppermint lovers are spoiled with a gooey, minty, star of a treat.
The cookie is made with their double chocolate chip dough recipe and little peppermint chips are folded into the mix, giving off a cool winter flavor with every bite.
The peppermint flavor complements the cookie in a way that isn’t overpowering so even if you don’t consider yourself a fan of mint, the Christmas treat is still enjoyable.
