Sey is a specialty roaster that takes coffee extremely seriously without being pretentious about it. Their space is minimal and beautiful. All clean lines and natural materials. The menu is simple because they want you to taste the coffee, not drown it in oat milk and syrup (though they’ll happily make you a latte). Their rotating single-origin pour-overs are genuinely some of the best cups of coffee I’ve had in my life. Not just in New York. In my life.

If you know even a little about specialty coffee, Sey is a pilgrimage spot. If you don’t know anything about specialty coffee, Sey is where you go to find out what the fuss is about. Either way, it’s incredible. The baristas are knowledgeable and genuinely helpful without being condescending. I’ve asked embarrassingly basic questions here and they’ve always been kind about it.

The space is minimal. White walls, clean lines, nothing extra. It feels like an art gallery that smells incredible. Order the filter coffee. Whatever the seasonal single-origin is, just say yes.

Fair warning. The vibe here leans serious. If you want cozy and chatty, this isn’t it. But if you want perfect coffee in a quiet room, Sey is the answer.

Not every morning needs a $19 pancake. Sometimes you just want an excellent cup of coffee, and SEY Coffee (18 Grattan Street, technically Bushwick) is the best in the area. They roast their own beans, the pour-over is exceptional, and the space is calm and bright.

A pourover runs $6. An oat latte is $7. They don’t serve food, which means there’s no brunch crowd. Just coffee people drinking coffee. Revolutionary concept.
