The best cheap eats in Midtown.

My husband and I have spent an embarrassing number of lunch breaks in Midtown, and here is what those breaks taught me. This neighborhood will happily take twenty-eight dollars off you for a sad salad in a plastic clamshell. It does not have to be that way. I have been eating my way around these blocks for years, and I keep a running mental list of the spots where a genuinely good lunch still clears the fifteen-dollar bar. Not “close enough.” Actually under fifteen.

So I did the annoying thing. I went back to each of these places, ordered the thing I always order, and did the slice math out loud like a lunatic on the sidewalk. Tax included. No delivery-app markup, because those apps quietly add a few dollars to everything and pretend they didn’t. These are the counters, carts, and noodle windows where I actually spend my own money when I am hungry and cheap and short on time. Which, in Midtown, is most days.
