The best places to eat near Barclays Center.

I have a pre-Barclays ritual, and it is not the food court inside the arena. My husband and I bought a small pack of Nets tickets a few winters back, mostly because a friend had extras, and the first night we fell for the arena-block trap like everyone does. We ate at one of the glowing chain spots right on Flatbush, paid twenty-two dollars for a burger that tasted like a hotel lobby, and then stood in a beer line long enough to miss the entire first quarter. Foolish.

So we fixed it. Now, whether it is a Nets game, a Liberty game in the summer, or a concert that runs late, we walk. The whole trick with eating near Barclays Center is that the good stuff is not next to the arena. It is a five-to-fifteen-minute walk into Fort Greene, Park Slope, or Prospect Heights, in restaurants that were feeding the neighborhood long before the arena showed up in 2012 and will keep feeding it long after. This is my honest list. Real places, real walking times, and a few I would tell you to skip.
