Ask me about New York
Hours, whether a place is worth the line, what to do with a rainy Tuesday and a six-year-old. Facts get a quick answer. Opinions get mine, up on the guide where the next reader can find it.

12 most recentIs New York restaurants every local needs to try worth it? Robert for thanksgiving
Oh, Thanksgiving in New York is the right call, and I'm always up for a plan that puts you at a real table. I didn't cover Robert or Thanksgiving dinner in the post, so I'll check and update the post. Which other spots are on your list besides Robert?
Can you comment on Our Daily Bread & The Gluten Free Bakery , Chatham NY please? showed up on my feed . Looks great but no reviews. thank You for a quick response!
Hi Sandy, thanks for reading! I haven't made it up to Chatham yet so I can't vouch for it personally, this list sticks to the five boroughs. A dedicated gluten free bakery in that part of New York sounds promising though. If you try it, come back and tell me how it was!
Thank you Antonina! Do you recommend one Dante location over the other for predinner drinks and after dinner drinks? The type of happy hour drinks not that important more for the classic evening date night vibe. Love…
Great question, Erin! For a classic evening date I'd go to the original Dante on MacDougal, that's the one with all the history and it's pure magic after dark. The West Village location on Hudson is bigger and easier for walk ins, so it's my pick for pre dinner drinks. Have the best night!
OMG I LOVE this .. I hope you are gone because BETTER things came up for you. Our LOSS ..beauty Photog and great writing! All the best and THANK YOU. Hilary
Ha, no, not gone anywhere, just out here documenting every borough one bridge walk at a time. Thank you for the kind words, that means a lot. DUMBO's one of my favorite excuses to drag people across the Brooklyn Bridge and I don't plan on stopping.
Hello, I am coming to NYC March 17-21 with my daughter and three granddaughters. We are all native Californians. I'm 69-years old and haven't been to NYC since 1979. I live in San Luis Obispo, CA along the Central Coast…
Oh, five of you in NYC in March, what a trip. Coming from 65 to 75 every day, you'll feel it, and wind is the real enemy in March, not snow. Pack like it's winter with one lighter layer for a warm afternoon. Wool coat or trench, base layers, scarf, gloves, beanie, and insulated shoes so your toes don't freeze. I run cold and always pack gloves.
Just an FYI that the New York Botanical Garden train show ends on January 11, not 20. The website is updated for tickets.
Thank you for catching that, Steph. NYBG's January 2026 calendar, checked October 31, 2026, shows the 2025/2026 Holiday Train Show ending January 11, 2026, just like you said. NYBG's Holiday Train Show page lists this year's run as November 14, 2026 through January 10, 2027. The post will carry a dated note on it.
Hi Antonia I’m so glad I came across your website. I’m from the UK and considering a family summer camp in New Hampshire next August (where I was a camp counsellor many moons ago) with a few days in NY first (and…
Hi Jo, that sounds like such a good trip, camp nostalgia plus NYC with the kids first is a great combo. Follow the tips on pacing and you'll be fine, New York can be a lot if you try to cram too much in. Have fun getting reacquainted with New Hampshire after!
Hi, thanks so much for the info! Just wanted to let you know that reservations are now opening up 6 days ahead of time (not 5!) I found this out too late unfortunately!
Oh thank you so much for the heads up! I'll get that updated right away -- really appreciate you letting me know!
My son and I are planning to travel to NYC just for the parade. We cant afford a hotel or air bnb so in order to fulfill his dream, Im planning to pull an all nighter and drive in from West Virginia, arriving at 6am.…
Oh how fun! I hope you have the most wonderful trip -- this city really is magical. Enjoy every second!
Thank you SO MUCH for recommending the Gansevoort Meatpacking! I was racking my brain for HOURS until I found your site, and this looks like our perfect hotel in the exact area we wanted to visit for my daughter's high…
That one's not actually on this list, I don't recommend the Gansevoort Meatpacking in this guide at all. Might be a mix up with another site. For a graduation trip I'd point you toward the neighborhoods I actually cover here, Upper West Side and Upper East Side are both solid picks.
Your portable charger link no longer works. :( Do you have the brand you have or another recommendation? Thank you! Your site has helped us plan well!
Oh that's so helpful, thank you! I love when readers help me keep things accurate -- will update the post!
In my opinion, It Happened on Fifth Avenue was a great Christmas movie ...
I haven't seen that one in years, honestly, but it's a fun call out. My list here is really the ones I think are the most iconic NYC holiday watches, but there's room for plenty more on the list of movies filmed here during Christmas.
Missing something?
A place that belongs on one of my lists, a closure, a price that moved, your own bagel shop. Send it to the desk, and it gets checked before anything changes here. Nobody can pay to be on this site.
