Best gluten-free bakeries in New York, 2026.

My best friend has celiac disease, but that doesn’t stop her insatiable craving for baked goods. When she visited NYC last spring we went on a whirlwind adventure in search of the best gluten free bakeries in NYC. Here’s a roundup of the gems we discovered along the way.

10 I’d go back to. My verdict on every one, and the ones nearby from my other lists.

1

Modern Bread & Bakery

Bakery
Worth it

I stumbled upon Modern Bakery completely by accident during a random morning walk. Without realizing that I stepped foot into a 100% gluten-free bakery, I ordered a bagel.

The bagel was so delicious (the chewy texture!) that I came back the following weekend for more. Keen to show my husband the. And it wasn’t until my second visit that I noticed the gluten free signage.

Then it hit me, did I accidentally order a gluten-free bagel last weekend?

Turns out I did, and I loved it as much as a traditional bagel, which is why I consider this one of the best gluten free bakeries in New York City. Their baked goods span the gamut, offering sweet and savory options, you’ll find everything from challah to cupcakes.

I took my friend here during her visit and she raved about the bagels as much as I did. In fact, we returned to Modern Bread & Bakery a few times while she was in town.

By The Way Bakery

Bakery

By The Way Bakery

By The Way Bakery is yet another great option for those in search of the best gluten free bakeries in New York City. The entire selection of toothsome baked goods is gluten-free, dairy free, certified kosher and so dang delicious.

Started by a lawyer-turned-baker, this bakery bills itself as an old-fashioned bakery where everything is homemade from scratch in small batches. The passion and effort shine through!

I made a point to pick up some treats from this beloved gluten-free bakery in New York City before my friend’s arrival and she found herself impressed by how delicious everything was. The lemon poppy-seed muffin was exceptional!

7 Grain Army

BakeryBrooklyn
Worth it
  • Address88 Roebling St, Brooklyn, NY 11211
  • From my guide, updated September 2026.

Brooklyn’s 7 Grain Army strives to encourage healthy eating habits through nourishing (gluten-free) comfort foods. Every item on the menu is loaded with super-foods because the belief is that proper nutrition keeps everyone healthy and happy.

But don’t you dare, even for a second, make the mistake of assuming that this great gluten free bakery in NYC churns out “healthy tasting food.” No, that couldn’t be further from the truth. The muffins alone warrant an hour-long subway ride and no one would be able to tell the bread is gluten-free unless told.

You don’t need a reservation to have the best meal of your trip.

Erin McKenna’s Bakery

Bakery
Worth it
Erin McKenna’s Bakery
  • Address248 Broome St, New York, NY
  • From my guide, updated September 2026.

Erin McKenna’s opened in 2005 with a simple mission in mind. Serve gluten-free treats tailored to folks with gluten, egg, soy and dairy sensitivities. The success was staggering and within a year it became one of the most popular gluten free bakeries in New York City.

Churning out some of the tastiest celiac-free baked goods in NYC, it’s impossible to stop at one order. The entire bakery is also kosher, egg-free, dairy-free, nut-free and soy-free as well. But you wouldn’t know any of that if it weren’t for the signage, because frankly, it’s hard to tell.

The baked goods are on par with their gluten counterparts, and equally satisfying. The seasonal treats are especially great and warrant a detour.

Posh Pop Bakeshop

Bakery
Worth it
  • Address192 Bleecker St, New York, NY
  • From my guide, updated September 2026.

If you’re on the hunt for gluten free sweets,Posh Pop Bakeshop is hard to beat. Their beautiful desserts have become an instagram sensation but not without reason! They taste as great as they look.

Expect to find everything from decadent cheesecakes to moist cupcakes, tall layered cakes, cookies, muffins and most notably, brownies. It’s no wonder why locals consider this one of the best gluten free bakeries in NYC for sweets fanatics.

Unpopular opinion. Unpopular opinion. Posh Pop Bakeshop deserves a Michelin mention for their baked goods alone.

Senza Gluten Cafe & Bakery

BakeryWest Village
Worth it
  • Address171 Sullivan St, New York, NY
  • From my guide, updated September 2026.

Located in the West Village, the bakery is an offshoot from Senza Gluten (the gluten-free Italian restaurant on the same block). The restaurant is great (especially for those that love pasta), but the bakery is where this gem truly shines. Expect to find delicious brunch dishes (the quiche is great), pizza and knock-out muffins. There’s no denying that Senza Gluten Cafe is one of the most charming gluten free bakeries in New York City.

Elisa’s Love Bites

Bakery
Worth it
  • Address441 E 9th St, New York, NY
  • From my guide, updated September 2026.

This bakery bills itself as the best place for gluten free and guilt free desserts in NYC. Rest assures, at Elisa’s Love Bites. The banana bread deserves a shout-out, as does the chocolate cake, which is satisfyingly moist and gives of an intensely rich flavor.

WebsiteElisa’s Love Bites Address.441 E 9th St, New York, NY It’s intimate and warmly lit, great for date night or a quiet meal when you need a break from the city’s pace. It’s the kind of spot that makes exploring this part of the city feel rewarding. Whether you’re a regular or just passing through, you’ll feel right at home here.

Cookies from Levain Bakery

Bakery

Cookies from Levain Bakery

I’m willing to bet that I’m not the first to tell you about the world-famous cookies from Levain Bakery but something that most folks don’t realize is that Levain offers gluten-free cookies now. They currently only offer the gluten-free option for the original flavor (chocolate chip + walnut) and it’s great!

Gluten-Free Pie from Petee’s Pie Company

Bakery
Worth it
Gluten-Free Pie from Petee’s Pie Company
  • Address61 Delancey St, New York, NY
  • From my guide, updated September 2026.

Petee’s Pie Company makes the best pie in New York City (fighting words, I know, but I stand behind them). Thankfully folks with dietary restrictions are. If you’re a pie-fanatic (*raises hand) I’m willing to bet this will be the best gluten-free pie you’ll ever have.

WebsitePetee’s Pie Company Address61 Delancey St, New York, NY I’ve been coming here for years and the quality has never once dropped. That kind of consistency is rare in NYC. The menu isn’t enormous, but everything on it is done well, which I always prefer over a place that tries to do too much and nails nothing.

Hi Sandy, thanks for reading! I haven't made it up to Chatham yet so I can't vouch for it personally, this list sticks to the five boroughs. A dedicated gluten free bakery in that part of New York sounds promising though. If you try it, come back and tell me how it was!

Sarah

You should check out Sensible Edibles in Queens! 100% gluten-free with tons of vegan options and lots of stuff for other dietary restrictions as well. Tastes great and is pretty healthy too

Alan Miller

Petee's Pies does not have gluten free options. Just stopped in yesterday and they said so.

Matthias

Great list, but where does one find gluten-free French baguettes in NYC?
Thanks,
Matthias

Ooooh, you have me stumped! I've never tried a gluten free baguette, so I'd lean on others for an answer in that department. Maybe worth checking out Modern Bread and Bakery?

Nancy Cialdella

You forgot to add the most important place!! Agata Valentina all gluten free store 79th and 1st ave.
Chocolate croissant $2.95!! They are incredible!!! They don’t taste anything like “no glu” the croissant are terrible there and cost $11
Agata Valentina has Plenty desserts, muffins, egg sandwiches, fresh baked bread, pizza and full bar by the pound.
Heaven for all celiacs and gluten free!!

Antonina Aug 10, 2022

Thanks for the recommendation Nancy! We'll give them a try and update the list after our taste test!

Jill

Also Rawsome Treats! Best tiramisu ever & it's gluten-free and dairy-free!!

Lizzy

@Nancy Cialdella, Their store isn't totally gluten-free, they have gluten on the shelves. Plus, they use gluten-free wheat starch in their products so those of us with a wheat allergy cannot safely eat their food. There is a lot of misinformation about that store.

Thanks so much for reading! I really appreciate it.
