The list, in my order
10 I’d go back to. My verdict on every one, and the ones nearby from my other lists.
Bakeri

- Address150 Wythe Ave & 105 Freeman St
- From my guide, updated September 2026.
Bakeri is often billed as the most charming bakery in Brooklyn and it’s hard to disagree. A stunning mural provides a backsplash of vibrant colors that set the tone for this relaxing neighborhood haunt. Opened in 2009, the bakery attracts locals in hordes most weekend mornings.
The display case is filled with irresistible treats (both savory and sweet options are available) and the smell of fresh-baked bread is nothing short of intoxicating. Between the decor and great bites, I always suggest Bakeri to folks visiting Greenpoint for the first time. It’s an easy place to love!
L’Appartment 4F

- Subway2, 3 to Clark St, 4 min
- Address115 Montague St, Brooklyn, NY 11201
- From my guide, updated September 2026.
L’Appartement 4F started as a hobby for French expat Gautier Coiffard, who began experimenting with sourdough and croissant lamination during the pandemic. Encouraged by his wife Ashley, the duo began selling French pastries to friends, colleagues, and soon enough, to strangers.
The baked goods quickly gained popularity, leading them to open a storefront in Brooklyn Heights which dons long lines every morning. Within a year, locals began billing this as one of the best bakeries in Brooklyn, largely thanks to the incredible raspberry-chocolate-almond croissant.
Another big draw is the viral croissant cereal (the tiny croissants are hand-rolled in small batches). Known to sell out at opening, scoring a box is no easy feat but try your luck anyways. In any case, if you’re walking by and the line is short, pop in for some of the best baked goods in Brooklyn Heights (the coffee is great, too!).
Worth the drive, worth the wait, worth every penny.
7 Grain Army

- Address88 Roebling St, Brooklyn, NY 11211
- From my guide, updated September 2026.
7 Grain Army strives to encourage purpose-based eating habits through nourishing comfort foods. Every item on the menu is loaded with super foods because the belief is that proper nutrition keeps us healthy and happy.
But don’t, for a second, make the mistake of assuming this great gluten-free bakery in NYC churns out “healthy tasting food” because that couldn’t be further from the truth. The muffins alone warrant an hour-long subway ride and no one would be able to tell the bread is gluten-free unless told.
Mille Feuille Bakery Cafe

- SubwayB, Q to 7 Av, 4 min
- Address622 Vanderbilt Ave, Brooklyn, NY
- From my guide, updated September 2026.
If you’re craving authentic French pastries reminiscent of the treats you’d find at Parisian boulangeries, Mille Feille delivers. The bakery knocks it out of the park with authentic baked goods, especially the namesake mille-feuille (referred to as Napoleon in North America).
The Brooklyn bakery couldn’t be cozier. It’s not very large, but it has all the basics covered. Excelling at macaroons and croissants, this local spot is a natural stop for a midday pick-me-up while exploring Prospect Heights.
Burrow
One of the most adorable bakeries in Brooklyn also happens to be one of the most underrated. Burrow is a shoe-box sized Japanese bakery open only four days a week (Tuesday-Friday) for four hours. The kicker? The baked goods tend to sell out by closing.
Everything is handmade by Ayako Kurokawa, a veteran pastry chef from the Plaza Hotel and the Modern at MoMa (two Michelin-starred restaurant). Expect to find mouth-watering baked goods and impressive cakes at this DUMBO bakery. The cream puffs and pistachio mousse cake are non-negotiable orders in my book.
Villabate Alba
- Address7001 18th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11204
- From my guide, updated September 2026.
Craving the ultimate cannoli experience? The Sicilian bakery has been charming the Bensonhurst neighborhood for more than four decades. From rainbow cookies to lobster tail pastries and homemade gelato, this popular Brooklyn bakery dishes out some of the best Italian pastries in NYC. The atmosphere is buzzy and energetic, exactly the kind of place where you’ll want to linger over your meal.
Martha’s Country Bakery

- Address263 Bedford Ave & 175 Bedford Ave
- From my guide, updated September 2026.
Celebrated for offering a incredible range of special occasion cakes and baked goods, Martha’s Country Bakery dates back to 1969.
Specializing in cakes that blend American and European baking methods, expect to find options on offer (there’s more than 16 cakes in their daily rotation). Heck, if you include cheesecakes and other baked goods, you’re looking at more than 150 confections.
If you’re overwhelmed by the options, the most popular cake on the menu is the Very Berry Napoleon (layers of flaky pastry, cream, and fresh berries).
Oneg Bakery

- Address188 Lee Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11211
- From my guide, updated September 2026.
Oneg Bakery has been a cherished Jewish bakery in Brooklyn since the 1980s. Founded by two sisters (survivors of the Holocaust), the bakery is an immense comfort to the Jewish community in Williamsburg.
It didn’t take long for the bakery’s fame to extend beyond Brooklyn, the irresistible double chocolate babka began attracting New Yorkers from all five boroughs.
Considered the best babka in New York City, the dense concoction is richly studded with enough chocolate to satisfy the most ardent sweet tooth. This treat alone is worth a detour.
Win Son Bakery
- SubwayL to Montrose Av, 3 min
- Address164 Graham Ave, Brooklyn, NY
- From my guide, updated September 2026.
Win Son Bakery is an impressive Taiwanese-American cafe, restaurant and bakery popular with the brunch crowd. The jack of all trades, the menu spans the gamut!
From hearty breakfast sandwiches (don’t sleep on the scallion pancake egg sandwich) to fermented red rice donuts and beef tongue pastrami, it’s not hard to see why locals consider Win Sone of the best bakeries in Brooklyn.
If you’re new to the world of Taiwanese cuisine, I suggest trying the Fan tuan, soft rice rolls filled with eggs, bacon and a crisply cruller. The combination of textures and flavors is excellent, it’s one of the most interesting bites I’ve had in NYC to date.
Don Paco Lopez Panaderia
- SubwayR to 53 St, 1 min
- Address4703 4th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11220
- From my guide, updated September 2026.
Don Paco Lopez Panaderia is the only place to go when a craving for Mexican sweet bread (pan dulce) strikes. Opened in 1991, the family-run business goes back three generations. There’s so many delicious baked goods. But if it’s your first visit, I suggest opting for the concha. The aptly-named shell shaped sweet bread is a proper introduction to one of the best Mexican bakeries in Brooklyn.
