Emily is a small business founded by husband-and-wife duo Matt and Emily Hyland. Since opening in 2014, this pizza joint has become a favorite for tourists, locals, and even celebrities.

And although the mouthwatering burgers (which unfortunately aren’t gluten-free) are my main reason for returning, I can’t forget to mention that Emily also makes some of the best gluten-free pizza in NYC! For an extra $4 you can make any pizzas on the menu a gluten-free indulgence.

The pizzas are Detroit style, so expect deep-dish square pies that are thick and generously garnished with toppings. I’m partial to the Good Paulie (white pie with caramelized onions, sausage, and smoked gouda), but it’s hard to go wrong with any of the options on the menu.

Unpopular opinion. I’ll die on this hill, coal-fired > wood-fired > gas oven, and I don’t care who disagrees.

Okay, Emily is a cheat because it is technically up in Clinton Hill at 919 Fulton, not Park Slope, and it is a longer walk than I would do on a tight schedule. But it makes the best case for planning ahead. The wood-fired pies are excellent, and the Emmy Burger, that pretzel-bun, caramelized-onion thing, is one of the more famous burgers in the borough for a reason. If you are the type to build a whole evening around one great meal and then cab or subway the last stretch to Barclays, Emily earns it.
