Built in 1922 (more than 100 years ago!), Jane’s Carousel is a historic wooden carousel that has been meticulously restored to its original splendor in a process that took more than two decades. When the restoration was complete, the carousel was relocated to DUMBO where it opened to the public.
Housed inside of a beautiful glass pavilion, the carousel is open rain or shine and admission is a mere $2 per person (adults allowed, even without children). The breathtaking views of the Brooklyn Bridge and East River coupled with a beloved childhood activity give this experience a nostalgic feel. This is one of the best things to do in DUMBO with kids. But honestly, I’ve hopped aboard the carousel on dates (without kids in tow) and had a blast, too.
If you’re only going to ride one carousel in New York, make it this one. Jane’s Carousel is a gorgeously restored 1922 carousel housed in a sleek glass pavilion right on the Brooklyn waterfront. The views of the Manhattan skyline and Brooklyn Bridge are absolutely stunning!
Why it’s great:
DUMBO in general is my go-to spot for scenic stroller naps by the water and an easy “wow” moments for visiting family. The carousel is mere icing on the cake.
While you’re out exploring DUMBO, make sure to swing by Jane’s Carousel, it’s one of the best Instagrammable places in NYC. Designed in 1922, the carousel is made up of 48 wood-carved horses and is opened Thursday through Sunday, from 11:00AM to 5:50PM. With the New York City skyline as your backdrop and the twinkling lights from the carousel, it’s not hard to see why we consider this one of the most Instagrammable places in NYC.
There’s nothing like the feeling of walking across the Brooklyn Bridge, until you reach DUMBO and spot the carousel spinning by the water. That’s the moment it turns into a core memory.
Jane’s Carousel is a beautifully restored 1922 wooden carousel set inside a glass pavilion. It’s one of the most photogenic, nostalgic, and joy-filled experiences you can have in the city. The ride costs a couple of dollars, the views are free, and the giggles are priceless.
