Jane’s Carousel

If you’re only going to ride one carousel in New York, make it this one. Jane’s Carousel is a gorgeously restored 1922 carousel housed in a sleek glass pavilion right on the Brooklyn waterfront. The views of the Manhattan skyline and Brooklyn Bridge are absolutely stunning!
Why it’s great:
DUMBO in general is my go-to spot for scenic stroller naps by the water and an easy “wow” moments for visiting family. The carousel is mere icing on the cake.
Central Park Carousel

Located just south of the Central Park Zoo, this historic carousel has been spinning since 1871, though it’s been rebuilt and restored several times over. With 57 hand-carved horses and a slightly dizzying speed (your toddler will love it), it’s one of the most iconic rides in the park.
Why it’s great:
If you’re planning a classic Central Park day, this stop a must. Ride the carousel, grab a pretzel, let the kids climb the nearby boulders, and finish off with some time at the zoo or a playground. Your kiddo won’t be able to stop talking about such a special day!
Bryant Park Carousel

Le Carrousel at Bryant Park is a little gem that feels straight out of a Parisian postcard. The hand-painted animals, the French cabaret-style music, and the nearby coffee carts make this one of the most charming carousels in New York City.
Why it’s great:
This is a great spot to know while exploring Midtown Manhattan. I keep it in my back pocket for moments when a meltdown feels imminent. Carousel and shade for the toddler and a lavender latte for yours truly. Everybody wins!
SeaGlass Carousel

Considered the most unique carousel in New York City, the SeaGlass Carousel swaps traditional horses for iridescent fish that glide inside a glass shell-shaped pavilion. It’s part ride, part art installation, and completely memorable for everyone in the family, especially at night when the carousel is lit from within.
Why it’s great:
The soaring buildings in the Financial District have a way of overwhelming kids and adults alike. The carousel is a nice break from the commotion, especially before or after a Staten Island Ferry ride or a trip to the Statue of Liberty.
Prospect Park Carousel

Nestled inside Prospect Park’s Children’s Corner, this carousel is a local favorite and often less crowded than others. Built in 1912 and lovingly restored, it features 53 hand-carved animals, some of which aren’t horses, including a lion and a giraffe!
Why it’s great:
If you’re in Brooklyn and want a full day of low-key family fun, this is the one. The area has everything: the zoo, splash pads, and places to sprawl out while your toddler insists on holding their own juice box.
