Children’s Zoo
Let’s start here: the Bronx Zoo is huge. It spans 265 acres, which can feel a little intimidating with tiny legs in tow. But the beauty of this place is that you don’t have to do it all in one day. In fact, I recommend that you don’t. Pick a few exhibits to focus on, build in snack breaks, and let your toddler take the lead whenever possible.
The zoo is stroller-friendly (though some paths are steep), and many of the exhibits are low enough for small children to see everything without needing a lift. The zoo also does a great job offering interactive spaces, hands-on exhibits, and plenty of places to stop, snack, and play.
JungleWorld
An indoor rainforest experience that’s perfect on hot or rainy days.
Bug Carousel
A whimsical (and slow-moving) ride featuring enormous bugs instead of horses.
Butterfly Garden
Beautiful and gentle, this is a quieter spot where toddlers can walk freely and explore.
Sea Lion Pool
A must-visit!
Monorail
This ride-only experience takes you through parts of the zoo you can’t reach on foot.
Dancing Crane Café
It has indoor seating (blessed air conditioning!) and offers kid-friendly options like chicken fingers, mac and cheese, and fruit cups.
