If you’ve dabbled in NYC’s fine dining scene then Gramercy Tavern needs no introduction. This famous NYC restaurant dates back to 1994 and is known for its commitment to seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. The restaurant has earned nine James Beard Awards, including “Outstanding Restaurant” and “Outstanding Chef in America.”
It should come as no surprise that swinging by for a burger is one of the best things to do near the Flatiron District. The Tavern’s esteemed burger is made with top-quality, locally sourced beef, a testament to the freshness that Gramercy Tavern champions in every meal. The patty is dressed in a beautiful smoked onion aioli, bacon, and cheese.
Sounds simple, and that’s the beauty of it. Pair that with the duck fat potato chips and it won’t be hard to see why this winning combo is considered one of the best burgers in New York City.
Note, There’s two dining experiences to choose from, the glorious tasting menu or á la carte (more casual setting). For the burger, you’ll need to opt for á la carte.

Dating back to 1994, this iconic NYC restaurant has earned nine prestigious James Beard Awards, including “Outstanding Restaurant” and “Outstanding Chef in America.” But enough with the flattery, let’s talk burgers.
The Tavern’s esteemed burger is made with a ground brisket/short rib blend (sourced from a 100-year old NYC meat purveyor), dressed in smoky onion aioli, bacon and melted cheddar cheese. Sounds simple, and that’s the beauty of it.
The only drawback is the lack of fries. While the restaurant’s duck fat potato chips are delicious, they don’t offer the same satisfaction as proper fries. Thankfully the burger punches above its weight, so the slight oversight is easy to forgive.
Gramercy Tavern offers affordable Michelin Star dining in two distinct dining areas, which the restaurant refers to as the tavern and the dining room. The tavern serves traditional American fare à la carte, including one of the best burgers in NYC with smoked onion aioli ($35) and a rotating selection of mouthwatering desserts, all under $20.
The dining room offers a seasonal menu with ingredients sourced from local green markets, with a four-course lunch option for $95 or a five-course dinner option for $168; wine pairings are also available for $65 and $125, respectively.
