The SoHo location (239 Centre Street) is the prettiest. Take the 6 to Spring Street.
Maman is a French-inspired cafe chain that’s taken over New York and honestly I’m not mad about it. Every location looks like it was designed by someone who spent a year in Provence and came back with a vision. The coffee is good (not the best on this list, but good), and the pastries are exceptional. Their chocolate chunk cookie is famous for a reason. It’s thick, gooey in the middle, and I have genuinely driven across the city to get one.
The SoHo location has the best atmosphere. Big windows, exposed brick, and the constant feeling that you’re about to be cast in a French film. It’s a lovely place to spend an hour.
Ask any local about the best coffee shops in SoHo, and the honest ones will mention Maman. Offering a whimsical and charming feel. Originally started as a French bakery and cafe in SoHo, Maman quickly became renowned for perfectly executed baked goods.
But what really put them on the map was Oprah listing their nutty chocolate chip cookie as one of her favorite things. I never miss an opportunity to order the quiche, chocolate croissant, or their famous macadamia nut cookie. Plus, they serve some of the best coffee in New York City (not to be underestimated at a bakery).
