Best happy hours on the Upper East Side

• Happy Hour Monday-Friday 3pm to 7pm

As someone who’s spent their fair share of time in bars in this city, The Penrose is special. Stepping into The Penrose any time of day you can’t help but immediately recognize you’re in a top notch spot. This bar checks all the right boxes – beautiful, vibey, and affordable.

If you don’t find room at the first bar near the entrance, head to the second dimly lit bar in the back.

Regarding happy hour, admittedly the price cuts alone wouldn’t quality The Penrose as one of the best happy hour deals on the Upper East Side, it’s still one of my favorites, given the overall experience. The UES happy hour special runs from 3 pm to 7 pm, offering $2 off beer, wine, and well drinks.

One of my personal favorites is their dirty-pickle martini.

You should know that The Penrose is strictly 21+ after 8pm and reservations are only available for parties of 5 or more.

• Happy Hour Monday-Friday 4pm to 6:30pm

Pil Pil is a great happy hour spot on the Upper East Side if you’re searching for a casual spot with a nice ambiance. The Spanish restaurant has a relaxed vibe to it. To give you an idea, branches hang from the ceiling and there is a wall of wine bottles behind the bar.

The cozy, homey feeling you get while imbibing here is largely due to the friendly staff. Serving tapas and wine, this Upper East Side happy hour spot offers a small bites menu along with $6-$8 drinks during the week.

I recommend ordering the Croquetas De Espinaca (Manchego cheese & spinach croquettes) and the Patatas Bravas (fried potatoes wedges).

• Happy Hour Monday-Friday 11am to 7pm

The Sefton is a cozy Irish pub serving proper pours of Guinness. But my favorite thing about this neighborhood haunt is the generous Upper East Side happy hour deal, which runs from 11am to 7pm and features $5 domestic bottles and $9 margaritas.

Good to know The Sefton is named after a horse that was seriously injured in the Hyde Park Bombings in London. The horse remarkably regained its health and became a symbol of defiance against terrorism, even winning Horse of the Year in 1982.

If you’re on the hunt for the best happy hour on the Upper East Side for beer and seafood, I’ve got just the spot. During the weekdays between 4-7 pm, The Jeffrey offers $1 oysters paired with $6 draft beers.

If beer is not your feel, you’re still in luck. This Upper East Side happy hour spot also offers $10 cocktails and $2 off house wines. One of my favorite things to do during the summer is snagging a spot outside on the backyard patio and sharing a beer with my husband.

Although the food options are limited during happy hour, the full menu is made up of delicious bites and meals. I recommend trying the pho tacos (trust me) and barrio dip sandwiches.

A reliable neighborhood dive bar known for it’s lively atmosphere and inexpensive drinks, The Stumble Inn is my friend’s go-to Upper East Side happy hour spot.

Pretty much any night of the week you’ll find the Stumble popping with a younger local crowd looking to cut loose after the work day. Makes sense, considering the bar’s happy hour might be the best the neighborhood in terms of value.

For starters, there’s a half off the entire bar “happy” happy hour (you read that right) Monday to Thursday from open to 4pm. If that’s too early for you then the regular happy hour is still great featuring $5 Drafts, $6 Vodka Seltzers, & $3 Budweiser, Bud Light, & Bud Light Seltzer Cans.
