Jacob’s Pickles on Amsterdam Ave is the kind of place where you show up starving and leave questioning your life choices in the best possible way. The biscuits are the size of your head, the fried chicken is perfectly crispy, and their Bloody Marys are strong enough to justify the walk to Central Park afterward. Come hungry and bring friends because the portions are massive.
The Upper West Side (UWS) is brimming with fantastic restaurants for a wonderful meal. Fortunately, Jacob’s Pickles is a short. It’s less than a 10-minute walk if you pop out at West 85th Street.
From the mastermind that started Maison Pickle, comes a more casual eatery that specializes in brunch fare. Swing by for traditional southern food (like fried chicken and waffles) and craft cocktails. Also worth noting, portion sizes are huge here, perfect for sharing!

Start your meal with the creamy deviled eggs, pickle flight and biscuits (with fixings) before tackling the entree options. An order of the buttermilk fried chicken is non-negotiable in my book, but the spicy chicken sandwich is also memorable.
Just know the portions are massive (some of the largest in NYC), you can easily split an entree between two people. Likewise, scoring a table during the weekends is no easy feat, so make reservations in advance.

This is not delicate brunch. This is “I walked six miles yesterday and I need fuel” brunch. The biscuits are the size of your head. The fried chicken and waffles are absurd in the best way. Everything comes with a side of pickles, obviously, and they’re house-made and crunchy and perfect.
I bring out-of-town friends here when I want to impress them without taking them somewhere fussy. It works every single time. The portions are enormous, the prices are reasonable for what you get, and the vibe is loud and happy in the way that good brunch should be.
