If you’ve seen a photo of a Brooklyn coffee shop with a massive living wall of green plants and sunlight pouring through a glass ceiling, that’s Devocion. It looks like a greenhouse that happens to serve coffee. And the coffee is actually great, which is not always a given with places this photogenic.

They source directly from Colombia and roast on-site. The single-origin pour-over is what I get. It’s bright, complex, and worth the $6.

The downside? Everyone knows about it. Weekend mornings are packed, and finding a seat takes patience. Go on a weekday before 9 AM if you want the full experience without elbowing someone for a table.

Also, it’s not cheap. A single-origin pour-over will run you $6 to $7, and if you add a pastry you’re looking at $15 before you’ve even started your day. Worth it? I think so. But your wallet should be warned.

The Williamsburg location (69 Grand Street) is the original and it’s still my favorite. Take the L to Bedford Avenue.

Devocion imports their beans directly from Colombia and roasts them within days of harvest, which gives the coffee this incredible freshness that I genuinely cannot find anywhere else. Their pour-over is the best I’ve had in New York. It’s bright and clean and complex in a way that makes you realize most coffee tastes flat by comparison. The Williamsburg space is also stunning. A big, airy warehouse with a living plant wall, natural light everywhere, and long communal tables. I’ve spent entire afternoons here pretending to work while really just drinking my third cortado and people-watching.

They also have locations in the Flatiron District and Brooklyn Heights. All excellent. But the Williamsburg original has the best vibe.

Devoción means devotion in Spanish, and this café is aptly named because they are devoted to serving the best coffee in Brooklyn. Serving New Yorkers with the freshest cup of coffee possible outside of the places where the crop is actually harvested.

After carefully selecting coffee plantations in Colombia, the team at Devoción mills the beans at their Bogotá warehouse. They then ship them overnight to Brooklyn, where they are roasted in-house. From there, the coffee is prepared to order and reaches your cup in about 10 days.

With a handful of locations around NYC, I frequent the Williamsburg location most because it feels very cozy with their exposed brick and warm lighting. Fair warning though, this one. Domino Park is a 5 minute walk however, so worst case scenario take in some views of the East River while enjoying your coffee.
